Luis is an Associate Professor of Finance at Florida Atlantic University. He was the Finance PhD Program Coordinator in 2014-2018. Prior to joining FAU, he was a Director of Examination Development at CFA Institute from 2007-2009. His responsibilities at CFA Institute included organizing and managing all processes necessary to develop the CFA Level II and Level III item set examinations. Prior to working at CFA Institute, he was an Associate Professor of Finance at Creighton University.

Luis has been an Associate Editor/Co-Editor at Financial Analysts Journal since 2012. He was the Interim Managing Editor in 2014, 2017-2018 and November 2021 to present, working in consultation with the Executive Editor to make the final publication decisions for the FAJ.  Luis has also served as Research Director of CFA Institute Research Foundation since 2018.

Luis has been actively engaged with CFA Institute as a consultant since 2009. Additionally, he was a member of the Board of the CFA Society of South Florida from 2009-2014, holding an officer position from 2011-2014.

​Luis is an active researcher who has published 35 articles in practitioner and academic journals, such as Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Portfolio Management, Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Asset Pricing Studies, Financial Management, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Financial Research. He is a co-author of the book “Invest with the Fed.” Luis holds a PhD from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He earned his CFA Charter in 2001.
